Does Florida humidity damage stone?
Coastal Florida homes deal with humidity year-round. For natural stone countertops, the practical impact is mostly about sealing and cleaning habits rather than the stone itself.
What should you clean stone with?
Clean with warm water and a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid vinegar, bleach and general-purpose sprays with citrus or ammonia — acids etch marble quickly and dull polished granite over time.
How often should you re-seal?
Test the seal a couple of times a year: place a few drops of water on the surface and wait fifteen minutes. If the stone darkens, it is time to re-seal. Wipe spills promptly, use trivets under hot pans, and cut on a board rather than directly on the surface.
